Programme Overview

The National Talent Academy Level 3 Award in Essential Work Skills is designed to help 16-19 learners identify their strongest skills, build confidence, and develop a clear sense of direction for their future. At Birmingham Metropolitan College, T Level Business learners took on the programme alongside their main studies — and came away with more than just a qualification.

37 learners enrolled on a Level 2 T Level Foundation course took on the Level 3 Award in Essential Work Skills alongside their main studies. Having already completed 35+ hours of work experience, the cohort came in with solid workplace awareness — and the programme built on that foundation, reinforcing employability skills and helping learners see a clearer path forward.

Rania & Mikalah

Rania and Mikalah both study T Level Business and have ambitions spanning marketing, law, finance and management. For both of them, the programme helped clarify not just what they're good at — but how to use those strengths to open doors they hadn't yet considered.

I've learnt from National Talent Academy that I'm not limited to one thing. There's doors that are open for me based on what I know I'm good at — and it's not just one straight road. There's different roads I can take in life.
— Rania T., T Level Business Learner
This world is big, and you may have an idea of what you want to do — but how are you going to do that for yourself? It's what steps are you going to take, not for what other people think. Everything you're doing in your life is for you, and that should be your main focus.

Tayyiba

Tayyiba studies T Level Business and came to the programme with strong project management instincts. What surprised Tayyiba most was how accessible the content was — and how much it shifted their confidence, both in the classroom and beyond.

Due to having dyslexia, it's quite difficult — but when you watch the video, the speed and volume control helped me maintain focus and get everything in my head. I didn't expect that at all.
— Tayyiba A., T Level Business Learner
The only person that can push you is yourself — and you learn that with National Talent Academy. It's helped with my confidence in speaking to others and putting yourself out there.

Tawseef & Mustafa

Tawseef has a clear career goal and came in with a strong financial mindset, using the programme to sharpen how he thinks about budgeting and money management. Mustafa arrived with natural leadership instincts and left with a clearer sense of how his confidence and communication skills make him a valuable asset to any team.
The skills I learned in leadership, teamwork and communication help me perform better in my main subjects. I work better with people as a team, and I'm more confident to answer questions in class.
— Tawseef M., T Level Business Learner
The course has definitely helped me massively in terms of confidence, speaking to others, and making others believe that you're a good asset for them.

Finding Direction

Across all five learners, one theme comes through clearly: the programme doesn't just teach work skills — it helps learners understand themselves. Whether it's identifying a strongest portable skill, building the confidence to speak up in class, or simply feeling less lost about the future, the Level 3 Award in Essential Work Skills gives learners a framework for thinking about where they're headed — and the belief that they can get there.
Before the course, I was kind of lost in what I wanted to do, and I felt like I had no sense of direction. It has made me think more into the future — but not be so hard on myself. If I want something, it's going to be up to me to grab it.
